Samuels off the mark

NSWIS discus thrower Dani Samuels has kicked off her European campaign at a Diamond League event in England.

Samuels’ Birmingham campaign ended in a fourth place finish after posting a throw of 61.28m against some strong opposition, including reigning Olympic champion and eventual winner Sandra Perkovic.

Samuels also notched throws of 60.89m and 60.38m to open her European campaign ahead of the next Diamond League event in Switzerland and the world championships later this year in Russia.

Fellow NSWIS athletes James Kaan and Brandon Starc were also in action at the event; Kaan finishing 10th in the men’s 1500m and Starc finishing seventh in the men’s high jump.
