Khalil falls short in Russia

Taekwondo athlete Safwan Khalil has missed out on on the quarter finals of the 2015 World Taekwondo Championships in Russia.

Competing in the men’s flyweight division, Khalil made a strong start to his campaign with wins over Dutchman Machario Patti and Armenian Haykaz Samvelyan to move into the round of 16.

It was there he faced China’s Zhao Shuai, going down 1-10 to miss out on progressing further.

Fellow NSWIS athlete and reigning women’s lightweight world champion Carmen Marton begins her campaign tonight Australian Eastern Standard Time.
